The primary role of this position is to make a difference in our members' financial lives. This is accomplished by providing the highest service quality to internal and external members. In addition, the position directs and coordinates all lending activities within the credit union, ensuring compliance with credit union lending policy; is responsible for developing lending policy; and manages lending activity to meet credit union goals and objectives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Directs and monitors lending operations for the entire credit union, including commercial, consumer, mortgage lending, and collections, through subordinate managers to ensure that the credit union meets established lending goals and objectives.
  • Monitors product delivery and quality and takes action to resolve problems.
  • Develops, proposes, gains acceptance for, and implements lending program policy and strategy; leads activity related to new product development for lending programs.
  • Establishes the annual department budget and monitors performance to budget throughout the year; establishes annual sales goals (in conjunction with marketing) for lending programs and initiates action to achieve established goals.
  • Prepares department scheduling, periodic loan department updates, and periodic reports for management's financial and operational reports, including new loan reports, asset/liability reports, loan officer statistical reports, and commercial potential problem loan reports.
  • Acts as an escalation for authorizing or recommending the approval of escalated member applications for commercial and consumer loans and lines of credit. Reviews periodically for required updated financial information and field visits.
  • Analyzes loan data reports for any corrective action.
  • Ensures the credit union complies with all lending regulations and develops procedural changes as compliance requirements or new programs demand.
  • Chairs the Business Loan Committee. Works closely with the VP of Commercial Lending to ensure proper structuring of new credits. Approves commercial loans using the board-approved lending limits.
  • Chairs the Risk Management Committee. Responsible for all areas of risk being addressed through the members of the executive team or their designates.
  • Serves on the internal Pricing Committee. Responsible for subordinates’ lending pricing recommendations to ensure net interest margins are maintained per the planned budget.
  • Serves as an Asset/Liability Committee member to develop operating procedures and ensure the credit union maintains sufficient capital, liquidity, and pricing spreads.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
  • Maintain a highly qualified staff to meet members' daily lending demands.
  • To ensure the department meets loan and delinquency goals.
  • To ensure that all lending activity is within established policies and regulations.
  • To keep management informed regarding vital operational issues affecting the department.
  • To complete performance reviews within the prescribed time frame.
  • To establish and achieve management development objectives for individual managers.

Minimum Expectations of Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: At least ten years of similar or related experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Interpersonal Skills: Motivating or influencing others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust and obtaining cooperation (internally
and externally).

Other Skills: Must have an in-depth understanding of and ability to interpret lending program regulations. Extensive knowledge of consumer and real estate and
lending practices and procedures. Must have experience with MS Office Suite.


Compliance:

Employees must uphold the credit union's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions with B.S.C.U. will consider the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity relevant to the department. In addition to any other assigned training courses, online B.S.A. and O.F.A.C. courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and Compliance Department. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, U.S.A. Patriot Act, O.F.A.C., Fair Lending, and Credit Card Act.
