The primary role of this position is to make a difference in our members' financial lives. This is accomplished by supporting the credit union’s compliance program and ensuring adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations, internal policies, and best practices. This role involves monitoring, assessing, and reporting on compliance risks, as well as assisting in the development and implementation of compliance initiatives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding Bright Service to each internal and external member as defined by our Service Standards and Promises.
  • Responsible for monitoring regulations and guidelines to ensure the credit union remains compliant with applicable federal and state requirements, but not limited to, Reg E. TILA, Reg CC, Reg Z, TISA, FCRA, ECOA and other regulations.
  • Responsible for assisting business units in creating, reviewing, and updating related policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes and best practices.
  • Responsible for coordinating and gathering information to conduct operational compliance reviews and loan reviews.
  • Works closely with the AVP of Compliance and other business units to ensure accurate implementation of controls and processes necessary to meet regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Work with internal departments to update credit union forms, notices, and disclosures not limited to Truth in Savings (TIS), Fee Schedule, Privacy Policy, and loan product disclosures based on regulatory and business needs.
  • Manages and resolves operational inquiries that are received through the Compliance Help Desk.
  • Participates in initiatives and projects to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Works with Training and Development to ensure staff completes appropriate compliance training.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  • Provide outstanding service to internal and external members as defined by our service standards and promises.
  • Provides timely assistance, review and corrective actions of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Manages and maintains ongoing documentation and reporting on regulatory changes and high-risk compliance areas.
  • Active participation and input regarding compliance concerns relevant to proposed and current products and services.
  • Maintain knowledge with continued training and maintaining certifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to convey findings and recommendations.

Minimum Expectations of Knowledge and Skills:

Experience – Minimum two to four years of experience in BSA/AML compliance, fraud detection, and risk management within a financial institution.

Education - (1) degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Interpersonal Skills- Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills- Effective communication, both orally and in writing with employees, other organizations, and the general public to explain generally established policies, procedures, and systems. Must have knowledge of regulations, and procedures related to a compliance program.

Compliance

Every employee must uphold the credit union's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions with B.S.C.U. will consider the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department.

  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online B.S.A. and O.F.A.C. courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and Compliance Department.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, U.S.A. Patriot Act, O.F.A.C., Fair Lending, and Credit Card Act.
