About the Role:
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for building trusted community relationships that translate into measurable membership growth, deeper member relationships, and a strong, mission-driven brand presence. This role serves as the credit union's primary ambassador to the community—developing strategic partnerships, expanding field-of-membership awareness, and ensuring community engagement efforts deliver clear business and member outcomes.
Community Partnerships & Outreach:
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with employers, schools, nonprofits, municipalities, and community organizations within the field of membership.
- Identify, establish, and grow SEGs and community partnerships that support sustainable membership and relationship growth.
- Serve as the credit union's visible representative at community events, meetings, and initiatives.
Membership & Relationship Growth:
- Convert community engagement into measurable outcomes, including new members, primary checking relationships, and product adoption.
- Partner with Marketing, Branches, and MSC to ensure effective onboarding and follow-up for community-sourced members.
- Track and analyze conversion results from community activities and adjust strategy accordingly.
Brand, Trust & Mission Alignment:
- Oversee the credit union's employee volunteer program, including planning, coordination, and execution of volunteer activities aligned with organizational values and community priorities.
- Develop and maintain an annual community and employee volunteer calendar, ensuring balanced participation, visibility, and impact throughout the year.
- Partner with leadership and department heads to encourage employee engagement and align volunteer opportunities with strategic initiatives.
- Track, document, and report monthly and annual volunteer activity, including participation rates, volunteer hours, community impact, and outcomes tied to the credit union's mission.
- Strengthening the credit union's brand reputation, trust, and visibility within the community.
- Ensure community initiatives reflect the credit union's mission of people helping people.
- Coordinate employee volunteer programs and community involvement to reinforce culture and purpose.
Strategic Planning & Execution:
- Develop an annual community engagement plan aligned with organizational strategic priorities.
- Evaluate community activities for return on investment and eliminate low-impact efforts.
- Manage community-related budgets, sponsorships, and partnerships with fiscal discipline.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field, preferred, not required.
- 3+ years of experience in community relations, nonprofit engagement, or CSR.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for community service and member-focused values.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience in the financial services or credit union industry.
- Bilingual (Spanish or other language) a plus.
Compliance:
- Every employee must uphold the credit union's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions within B.S.C.U. will consider awareness of unusual or suspicious activity relevant to the department.
- In addition to any other assigned training courses, online B.S.A. and O.F.A.C. courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and Compliance Department.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, U.S.A. Patriot Act, O.F.A.C., Fair Lending, and Credit Card Act.
